“There is a deficit-based dominant narrative that underpins systemic racism, framing structural inequities as individual faults.”

Move upstream.
Thea James, MD is the Vice President of Mission at Boston Medical Center (BMC) and a longtime Agncy hero. Thea’s work is always moving evermore upstream, as she looks past crises to understand – and act upon – root causes.
In her work on community wealth-building, Thea moves the onus of responsibility from the individual to systems of harm. BMC’s economic mobility initiatives model how changes in investment structures push solutions from charity to financial independence.
Thea teaches us that moving mindsets transforms power structures: shift cultures to shift priorities.
The project: We supported BMC in pushing forward its strategy and storytelling in economic mobility.
Our mission is to use design to reduce structural inequity in America. Agncy is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization. © 2020 Agncy Design Inc.
