Jon Sproul

Jon Sproul is Executive Director of Adult Education & Workforce Development at the YMCA of Greater Boston, which provides career training and pathways development with a focus on programs customized for non-English speakers.

We learn from Jon’s appreciation for martial arts and the Bruce Lee videos he sends periodically. Bruce helps us to appreciate how Jon marries freedom and non-freedom, balancing intuition with structure.

This year, he and his team redesigned programming in Woburn to be responsive to the needs of migrant families. This work required juggling state designations, existing relationships, corporate constraints, and funding requirements. And yet, Jon started with his person-centered intuition: “why don’t we ask them [immigrants] what they need?” We helped Jon’s team facilitate a co-design process with newly arrived individuals living in Woburn hotels.
